A campaign about intimacy is a difficult thing to photograph without slipping into sentiment. JW Anderson’s answer was to cast a couple who already know how to stand next to each other — Dree Hemingway and Nick Delli Santi, shot together for the first time — and let Sam Khoury photograph what happens in the gaps.

What happens is largely comic. She is caught mid-laugh, thrown back over his forearm. They fold into one another on a Persian rug in matching indigo. He lies sideways across a settee with a leg in the air, entirely unbothered. The clothes are unisex; the wardrobe is shared; nothing about the styling insists on which garment belongs to whom.

That shared wardrobe is the point. The Twisted Denim line reads as ordinary workwear from across a room and rearranges itself as you get closer — the front of the jean is turned, and the leg seams follow the turn, spiralling down the leg in a line that has no business being there and looks, in the end, inevitable.

“The front of the jean is twisted, and the leg seams follow — an idiosyncratic effect that celebrates craft.”

Made in Japan

Every piece is cut from Japanese cotton and made by denim specialists in Japan. The details are the kind you only find by handling the garment: a printed pocket bag, metal shank buttons, orange binding inside the seam, and a large leather patch embossed with the house logo. Luxury declared quietly, on the inside, where the wearer is the only person who sees it.
