Emerging as a beacon of cultural resonance, Dendezeiro presented its new collection, “BRASILIANO: Filhos do Sol,” at São Paulo Fashion Week on 20th October. Under the visionary guidance of Hisan Silva and Pedro Batalha, the Bahian brand delved deep into the rich tapestry of the Brazilian sertão, reimagining its narratives of resilience and transformation through a contemporary lens.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, Dendezeiro has consistently stood out for its unique fusion of regional culture and fashion. This latest collection is no exception, drawing inspiration from the founders’ familial roots to redefine the story of the sertão. By intertwining elements of streetwear and tailoring, the brand challenges stereotypes, offering a fresh, diverse perspective on a region often confined to traditional portrayals.
Influenced by literary masterpieces like “Vidas Secas,” the collection captures the essence of perseverance and endurance. “We tell the story of the children of the sun, those who, like the carcará bird, fly hungry to spread the true and new cordel narrative to the world, planting seeds in the dry land,” shares Hisan. This poetic vision connects the past with the present, weaving a creative and inclusive aesthetic that resonates with modern audiences.
Artisanal techniques are at the heart of “BRASILIANO: Filhos do Sol.” Intricate straw weaves and beadwork celebrate the manual craftsmanship and traditions of the sertão. A notable collaboration with Suvinil brings a visual and creative partnership that bridges fashion and décor. Using paints in the shade Marrom-luxo—one of Suvinil’s colours of the year for 2025—the collection reflects the intense and rich hues of the sertão’s landscapes.
The colour palette is dominated by earthy tones: browns, reds, blacks, and beiges, symbolising a deep connection to the land. This earthy foundation is further accentuated through a collaboration with PUMA. The footwear complements the apparel with matching nuances, creating a harmonious blend between clothing and accessories. Models graced the runway wearing the Easy Rider, Suede Classic, and notably, the Speedcat—a silhouette with an ultra-low sole and sporty aesthetic, marking it as a standout street style trend of the year.
The beauty concept, crafted by makeup artist Gotham, is a celebration of diversity and Brazilian identity. The runway showcased the authentic, contemporary essence of the men and women of the sertão. Makeup paid tribute to natural beauty, focusing on luminous skin and a healthy bronzed glow, reflecting the sun’s warmth and vibrancy. Earthy tones took centre stage, enhancing the radiant and fresh effect as if each model had just basked under the intense sun.
Hair styling embraced freedom and natural movement, with locks left loose to sway organically. This approach underscored the homage to the Bahian sertão, encapsulating its raw beauty and spirit.
“BRASILIANO: Filhos do Sol” stands as a visual manifesto, celebrating the history of the sertão while reinventing it through innovative design. The collection reaffirms Dendezeiro’s commitment to representation, inclusion, and innovation, all the while staying true to its roots. By bridging tradition with modernity, the brand invites a re-examination of the sertão—not as a static backdrop of the past but as a dynamic source of inspiration for the future.
As Dendezeiro continues to weave stories through fashion, it not only honours the heritage of the Brazilian hinterlands but also propels it onto the global stage. The collection is a testament to the transformative power of fashion as a medium for storytelling, cultural expression, and societal reflection.
