Xavier Hickman is the face and name everyone needs to know this fall, why you ask? Well, this new guy is about to be everywhere you look, literally. Having just booked arguably the biggest gig of the season, the Burberry September Collection Campaign, you will be seeing Xavier of the first pages of every major magazine, buses and billboards all around the world. I thought it would be great to know more about him before he takes over the fashion scene. So after discussing it with the Lewis Team and we agreed that he had to be this week’s model, and Xavierwas more than happy to sit down with me for a little “Unfiltered Q&A”

Hi Xavier

Hey.

How would you describe yourself?

I would say that I'm very energetic, quirky and a free spirit

Where are you from?

I grew up just outside north London, but my mother is Indian but grew up in Kenya and my Dad is English
How did you get into modelling?

My uncle and godfather are in the photography and fashion industry, and they mentioned modelling to me and helped me take my first pictures to send off to an agency in Paris. We took pictures in my garden and they're still in my portfolio now.

What agency did you first sign with?

The Face Paris

Was fashion and photography something you grew up with?

No definitely not it was all fairly new to me, it was the first time in a couple of years that I saw my godfather that helped me a lot with somewhere to stay and show me around in Paris.

What was your first modelling job?

It was an unrecognizable shoot for an eyewear store, and my second job was a runway show for JW Anderson.

How does it feel to be the new face of Burberry's AW17 collection and what was the process of being cast & experience like?

It's an absolute honour because I've been modelling for about three years now and to work with Burberry as my first ever campaign is like a dream come true to me because it's such a  recognizable British brand. My booker at Select and I did not know what I was getting cast for at first, I had to see the photographer Alasdair Mclellan for one of the first casting, and then got another casting the week after to see the CEO, Christopher Bailey, but even for the second casting I had no clue if I got the job or not, but I guessed it was a job for Burberry and I was saying to my parents that it was a massive long shot for me to get.

Burberry campaign stars have gone to work for other big houses, is there a certain brand/s you'd like to work with?

Gucci, Stone Island, Raff, Calvin Klein, Lanvin, Saint Laurent, I could go on but we would be here all night 😅
Having already worked with the incredible Alasdair Mclellan, is there another photographer you'd really like to work with?

I'd really love to work with Alasdair and Tim Walker again, but someone that I've never worked with would have to be Nick Knight or Karl Lagerfeld.

What's your favourite thing to do when you're not working?

I love socializing in London with my mates and playing football and swimming.

Favourite song of the moment?

It's gotta be Spirit by JHus

Do you have any secret hidden talents?

I can hold my breath underwater for 3 minutes 😅

Where would you like to be in 5 years?

I'd definitely like to still be in the fashion industry, maybe starting my own clothing line.

Last question, where can people keep up with you and find your new work?

The best place to find my work is my Instagram @Xavier_kh
