This Sunday’s feature is dedicated to Matty Carrington, one of the leading commercial models who has been placed with many of the top modelling agencies internationally.
Matty Carrington kindly offered to share his journey within the modelling world, and his tips for making it in the industry.
What is your full name?
Mathew Trevor Carrington
4 words that describe you?
Although I’m sure people could think of another 4…
How is it being a model in ‘Modern Day’ society?
It is genuinely great, especially with social media having such a massive impact. Being a model is a brilliant job! There is no better feeling than having a picture of yours being regrammed by Versace, after following them for years on Instagram. It is crazy.
What is your favourite aspect of your job?
That is an easy one! I am only 20 years old and I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to travel to some amazing countries and have seen so many beautiful places already.
How did your career begin?
I started when I was 16. I was shopping in London with my mum and she suggested I visited a modelling agency. So, I researched into agencies in London and Select was at the top of the list. I went for a walk-in session, and they signed me there and then. I really have my mum to thank for everything.
Why did you choose to follow modelling as opposed to any other career?
I have always been into fitness; I was one of those weird kids that did sit ups before bed at like 12 years old. Why modelling? I am not entirely sure, but I am so glad that I did pick it and I am so grateful to the Select team for everything that they have done for me so far.
Is there something that makes your persona unique?
I am afraid not. I feel like most models are just everyday people who have been fortunate enough to find themselves in this privileged position. We have got to stay humble.
What is the biggest lesson you have learnt whilst being in the Fashion industry?
You can be the best-looking guy in the world, but no one wants to work with an ‘ass’. So, you have to know to treat others how you want to be treated.
Any tips you could give to anyone wanting to start a career in modelling?
Do not take anything personally! It is only a job at the end of the day; if you do not get casted it is probably nothing to do with the way that you look. Also, whilst you are young and have the opportunities, take advantage of them.
