LFWM: Astrid Andersen AW19

Astrid Andersen’s article by our online editor Chido Obasi.

Eccentricity juxtaposed with timeless classic.

Astrid Andersen’s latest collection began with a classic two-piece pinstripe suit. The waistcoat was worn over a ribbed jumper with geometric surface patterns. The juxtaposition of classic menswear style combined with eccentric shapes unveiled the designer’s true aesthetic and creative essence. Tracing this back to its beginnings in America, during the 20’s, the duality of classical silhouettes and street style are key to the designer’s brand identity.

Following on from this show-stopping suit, we were treated to a series of silhouettes which saw a mix between streetwear, prints and knitwear, styled between one another. Colourful pinstripe pants were a further key item within the collection, embellished by symmetric shapes throughout the looks. Hats were also a trend-statement paired with black brogues. Wild hand paint was present throughout, giving a sense of freedom in a “blocky” manner: a challenge for Astrid Andersen. The season also featured fur and lace combined, both amongst the most identifiable characteristics part of the brand’s depiction.
